Flex-Brain Study

The FLEX-Brain Study examines brain-based differences in healthy weight and overweight children and adolescents (ages 12-17). Participants are asked to have fMRI (functional magnetic resonance imaging) scans of the brain, complete cognitive testing batteries, participate in physical fitness testing, complete questionnaires,  and have bloodwork done. Participants are also grouped for an 11-session, healthy-lifestyle program over a six-month period that includes working with a dietician and a personal trainer. Monetary compensation is made to participants completing the program.

Ameliorate Childhood Obesity Risks from Newer Antipsychotics for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ACORN-ASD)

ACORN is a healthy lifestyle intervention tailored for children, adolescents and young adults (ages 8-26) with diagnosed autism spectrum disorder who are currently prescribed specific medications to help regulate behavior. These participants will receive a one-on-one healthy lifestyle intervention program that is comprised of a didactic nutrition education component and an exercise component. Participants will also be asked to have bloodwork done and complete questionnaires. Monetary compensation is made to participants completing the program.

Operationalizing the Pre-Operative Period

Operationalizing the Pre-Operative Period is a healthy lifestyle intervention tailored for children (ages 8-12) who are scheduled for surgical procedure at the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh and are overweight at the time of surgery. These participants will receive a group-based healthy lifestyle intervention program that is comprised of a didactic nutrition education component and an exercise component. Participants will also be asked to have bloodwork done and complete questionnaires. Monetary compensation is made to participants completing the program.
